HDMI 2.1 Technology Elevates ViewSonic’s Gaming Monitors

(October 12, 2022) –ViewSonic announces two new ultra-wide 34-inch curved ELITE gaming monitors - the premium ELITE XG341C-2K and the hyper-responsive ELITE XG340C-2K. Both monitors boast the latest HDMI 2.1, which supports up to 10K video resolution and 48Gbps data transfer speed for a decrease in screen tearing and stuttering.

HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) has been the go-to standard for transmitting high-resolution video and audio via a single cable and connector. HDMI 2.1 is the latest technology update, providing more bandwidth and resolution than its predecessors.

Key Benefits of an HDMI 2.1 Monitor

Higher Bandwidth: Going from HDMI 2.0 to 2.1 will bring greater bandwidth from 18 Gbps to 48 Gbps, which means it possesses superior data transfer speed to carry 4K resolution and refresh rates of up to 120Hz. HDMI 2.1’s larger bandwidth acts as a stronger bridge that can support heavier content loads from game consoles.

Dynamic HDR: With increased bandwidth, a display with HDMI 2.1 allows for dynamic HDR to occur smoothly for a more detailed visual experience. It expands the contrast range beyond its normal values, causing darker blacks and brighter whites. Ultimately upgrading the viewing experiences for users.

Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC): eARC technology removes the need for a separate optical audio cable, thus decluttering your desk setup. HDMI 2.1’s expanded bandwidth allows for eARC to handle more advanced audio formats and channels. In fact, it can cope with up to 7.1 channels and support Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and Dolby Atmos. This enhances the overall audio quality, resulting in mind-blowing surround sound each time users play a video game.

Enhanced Refresh Rate: Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is a technology that automatically matches the display’s refresh rate to the frame rate. This aspect is essential to video games as they require varying levels of data and go through heavy processing. Should the source device be unable to withstand the load, it will lead to undesirable lags, judders, and frame tears. HDMI 2.1 enables a more dynamic refresh rate of up to 144Hz and, thus, eliminates screen tearing for more fluid, smoother gameplay.

NOTE: FreeSync is AMD's VRR technology, allowing FreeSync-compatible systems and monitors to communicate directly, scaling a display's refreshes to current outputted frames.

Latency Reduction Features: Auto Low Latency Mode, otherwise known as ALLM, further optimizes the display to prioritize visuals or fast frame rates automatically. For example, if the display is being used for console gaming, it could automatically prioritize low input lag over visual enhancements, as opposed to watching a movie.
